Bank holidays in January 2025: Are banks shut on January 13 or 14 for Makar Sankranti and Lohri? Check city-wise list

Are banks closed on January 13-14? If you're doubtful about the banking schedule for coming week, read on this article. Every time, the Reserve Bank of India releases a timetable of leaves for all public and private banks across India. According to the periodic vacation timetable list published by the RBI, both private and public banks will remain unrestricted on January 14. Still, there's no vacation on January 13 as per the central bank’s timetable.

As per the RBI, banks in some metropolises will remain unrestricted on January 14 on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. The day is also celebrated as Uttarayana, Punyakala, Pongal, Maghe Sankranti, or Magh Bihu in colorful regions. Also, January 14, 2025, will be celebrated as the Birthday of Hazarat Ali. While Lohri and Makar Sankranti are celebrated with full gleeful vehemence in North India, banks will remain open in Delhi- NCR on January 13 and 14 as usual because there's no citation of vacation in these areas in the RBI timetable. In January, the last banking vacation on a weekday will be on January 23, 2025. Banks in Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and Agartala will remain shutting on the occasion of birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose/ Vir Surendrasai Jayanti.

Bank leaves are mentioned in the periodic vacation timetable declared by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) under the tittles of the Negotiable Instruments Act, which regulates the allocation of cheques and promissory notes. Deals involving these instruments are not available during similar leaves. Still, all banks will operate their online and mobile banking services apps anyhow of bank leaves. All the ATMs will be opened on January 13-14.
